The Windham Rotary Club proudly volunteered at Millennium Running's Cheap Marathon yesterday, with five members taking on a variety of roles—from registration and course direction to water stations and runner support—helping ensure a smooth and enjoyable event for all. The race featured outstanding performances, with marathon winners Cody Symonds (2:26:15) and Brendan Adams (2:26:25) for the men, and Mackenzie Hall (2:43:02) and Collette Soucy (2:53:58) for the women, along with strong half marathon finishes by Alexandre Banks Gadbois, Seth Richardson, Mary Klene, and Michele Morin; local standouts included Nikolaus Guthrie and Michelle McCarthy, and many runners achieved qualifying times for the upcoming Boston Marathon. Supporting the Windham Rail Trail Alliance, the event was a great success and a true reflection of Rotary’s commitment to community service.

The Windham Rotary Club proudly stepped up to serve the community yesterday by volunteering at the Cheap Marathon, a spirited local event that brought runners, families, and supporters together for a great cause. With five dedicated volunteers representing the club, each took on a unique role to help ensure the day ran smoothly—from registration support and course direction to water stations and cheering on participants along the route.

The atmosphere was energetic and uplifting, with Rotarians working side by side with other community members to create a welcoming and organized experience for all involved. Whether handing out water, guiding runners, or offering encouragement, each volunteer played an important part in making the event a success.

The race itself showcased impressive performances across both marathon and half-marathon distances. In the marathon, top honors went to Cody Symonds (2:26:15) and Brendan Adams (2:26:25) for the men, while Mackenzie Hall (2:43:02) and Collette Soucy (2:53:58) led the women’s field. In the half-marathon, Alexandre Banks Gadbois (1:14:26) and Seth Richardson (1:15:46) were the top male finishers, while Mary Klene (1:20:48) and Michele Morin (1:27:15) led the women.

The local community was also well represented, with Nikolaus Guthrie posting the fastest marathon time among Windham residents at 2:50:51, and Michelle McCarthy leading the local women with a time of 4:38:06. Notably, many runners achieved qualifying times for the upcoming Boston Marathon, making the day even more memorable for participants.

Beyond the fun and camaraderie, the marathon supports the Windham Rail Trail Alliance, an organization dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the local rail trail for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike. By volunteering their time, Windham Rotarians not only contributed to a successful event but also helped advance a mission that promotes outdoor activity, conservation, and community connection.

It was a great day filled with service, smiles, and shared purpose—another example of Rotary in action, making a positive impact right here in Windham.
