Rotarians from the Windham Rotary Club and Londonderry Rotary Club traded business meetings for wheelbarrows and work gloves on May 15, teaming up at the YMCA of Greater Londonderry to help prepare the summer camp for opening day. Volunteers spread mountains of wood chips, cleaned picnic tables, and proved that many hands — and a few sore backs — can make light work. Their teamwork helped create a safer and more welcoming space for local children to enjoy this summer.
Members of the Windham Rotary Club and Londonderry Rotary Club joined forces on May 15 for a day of community service at the YMCA of Greater Londonderry, helping prepare the campgrounds for the upcoming summer camp season.
Rotarians spent the day tackling several outdoor projects to make the camp welcoming and safe for the children who will soon fill the grounds with summer fun and activity. One of the biggest jobs of the day involved spreading three massive piles of wood chips throughout a camp activity area. Armed with shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows — and fueled by plenty of teamwork and good humor — volunteers worked together to transform the space into a clean and safe play area for campers.
In addition to landscaping work, volunteers cleaned and wiped down picnic tables throughout the campgrounds, helping freshen the outdoor gathering spaces that will be used daily during camp programs.
The project was a great example of Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” in action. By partnering, the Windham and Londonderry Rotary Clubs made a meaningful impact in just a few hours while strengthening friendships between the two clubs.
